pond service
WATERGARDEN CLEANING

FULL CLEAN-OUT

**Click here to see pictures of our work**

As each pond differs in equipment, many work items are not required. Each pond is cared for based on its own construction/equipment type.

Testing of Ph, Nitrite, Nitrate, Ammonia, alkalinity etc. is not necessary during this program of a full cleanout. A full testing is performed and documented during Maintenance Services.

During this service we customize a "Pond-Care-Package" of the required treatment that you will need throughout the year for optimum water balance and pond health. i.e. beneficial bacteria, algae treatments, fall netting, etc.

Let us know before hand if you wish for us to bring out plants, fish, preferred pond treatments, etc., That Is what we are here for! U name it!!

Scope Of Work includes the following work items:

  • Unplug entire system, i.e. pumps, filters, UV lights etc.
  • Drain one half of the water from the pond to hold enough water to support all fish for the duration of the cleaning. (Our containers range in size from 100 gallon to 1400 gallon tanks. Sizing depends on the amount of fish you have, as well as the amount of water we need to ensure proper acclimation of the fish back into the pond. )
  • All fish and aquatic life are stored in these troughs with bio-filters and aerators and covers.
  • Add electrolytes to troughs to reduce stress on fish.
  • Remove all plants, and store in separate water troughs until completion. Bare root plants shall be worked around accordingly.
  • Remove remaining water. Since this water is of such high nutrient content, most customers ask us to disperse it over their gardens or landscape beds for fertilization. Please request.
  • Remove all accumulation of debris within pond basin, streambed and bog area (sludge, decayed plant material, dirt etc.)
  • Pressure wash all stone and liner within pond, waterfall stone, stream bed and bog area.
  • Stone and liner shall be free of all debris, algae etc.
  • Any liner exposed, due to stones that may have shifted, fallen in during the winter months shall be recovered with the stone units.
  • Remove pumps and clean thoroughly, flush tubing free of sludge accumulation, and clean pump cages.
  • Clean and condition pumps thoroughly, changing oil, rubber gaskets etc. as needed .
  • Remove all pads from filters and skimmers and clean components completely.
  • Replace any filter fabric as needed, recommended every two years.
  • Reset all pumps and filters filter pads.
  • Change ultraviolet bulbs.
  • Clean submersible light covers and ensure against leakage.
  • Remove all dead foliage from existing plants.
  • Add water to original level. We utilize a meter to gauge the total gallons of your pond when filling. That way we are accurate in measuring when treating the pond through out the year.
  • Treat water free of chlorine, chloramines, heavy metals etc.
  • Addition of "Live" Beneficial Bacteria to eliminate break-in period. (versus 4-6 weeks with other liquid / dry formulas)
  • Addition of Pond salt as needed.
  • Fertilize all plants and divide if needed.
  • Slowly acclimate fish and aquatic life back into the pond.
  • Set plants back into the original configuration.
  • Start all pumps, lights, filters etc.
  • Add additional plants and aquatic life to pond per client specifications.
  • Make changes or additions to pond per client specification.

DETAIL OF PRODUCTS WE USE DURING OUR SERVICE VISITS

Watergarden Cleaning - Full Clean-Out

Here's the products we use, If you already purchased the products, we can use those or we can bring just what we need for the service visit.

Since this is a full cleaning, we use these specific products.

After the Cleaning, and we are adding water back into the pond, we use Dechlorinator to remove toxic chlorine, chloramines, ammonia.

We now need to "jump start the ecosystem" with Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter, and get the Nitrification Cycle in equilibrium.

We add Bioseed Gold to speed up "break-in" period to 1 - 2 weeks instead of the normal 6-8 weeks. If we want fast break-in of the Nitrification Cycle, then we will add TurboStart. This cycle's ponds in less than 5 days! We leave our customers with a Test Kit and a small bottle of Ammonia Remover/Detoxifier in the event that an ammonia spike occurs within these 5 days. Just a precaution!

Beneficial Bacteria, either Microbe-Lift or Bacta-Pur, is then added to support and continue the Nitrification Cycle. KC Nitrifier is an additional kick of LIVE Nitrifiers added for additional support of the colony of Nitrifiers. If performed in Cold water less than 50 degrees, we will use Microbe-Lift's Spring/Summer or Clear Pond Fall & Winter Formula until the water temp reaches 55 degrees.

KoiZyme is added to eliminate Aeromonas & Pseudomonas. These are the "Bad Bacteria" that cause deadly bacterial infections i.e., ulcer disease, fin rot, mouth rot, etc. They are on the attack as water temperature fall between the 47-62° mark!

Salt is added to maintain electrolyte balance to protect fish from disease as well as to kill parasites, and help eliminate toxic effects of Nitrites.

Algaefix and Ecofix are added to control String Algae, reduce organic pollution, and increase oxygen into the pond. Barley is supplemented to breakdown Algae as well.

We fertilize all plants with Pondtabbs.

We add Bacta-Pur Pro 100 a probiotic that prevents development of disease in your pond and boosts the fishes eco-immunity.

Koi Vital is added to replenish vitamins and trace mineral. Induces reproductive activity in Koi and other cold-water fish! This means Babies...!

Activated Carbon is Rinsed and placed in pond. Carbon offers a ga-zillion "hotel rooms" for the Nitrifiers to proliferate.

Fritzguard is added to coat the bio-media for superb adherence of the Nitrifiers to the various surfaces in the bio-media as well as on the surfaces within the pond.

Zeolite is also added for absorption of Ammonia that can occur during the "break-in" of the Cycle. The pond is set until we come back on our next maintenance visit! Remember, not all these items are needed each visit. It gives you a great perspective of how conscientious we are about pond keeping. We do everything we can to make your pond a healthy, balanced, "living" ecosystem!

Partial Cleaning

Maintenance Services

Here are the products that we use for our maintenance services

To "jump start the ecosystem", our first visit we will use... Bioseed Gold to speed up the "break-in" period to 1 - 2 weeks instead of the normal 6-8 weeks. If the pond really needs "aged water" immediately, (ammonia, nitrite are at dangerous levels), we use TurboStart. The Nitrification Cycle is complete is 5 days or less! We leave our customers with a Test Kit and a small bottle of Ammonia Remover/Detoxifier in the event that an ammonia spike occurs within these 5 days. Just a precaution!

Most ponds just need the initial kick of the "LIVE" Nitrifiers at the cleaning or openings. During our maintenance services we continue to supplement with Beneficial Bacteria, Microbe-Lift or Bacta-Pur to support and continue the Nitrification Cycle. KC Nitrifier is added as an additional kick of LIVE Nitrifiers, added for additional support of the colony of Nitrifiers.

If performing a Water Change, we use Dechlorinator to remove chlorine, chloramines, ammonia.

KoiZyme is also added to combat Aeromonas & Pseudomonas. These are

the "Bad Bacteria" that cause deadly bacterial infections i.e., ulcer disease, fin rot, mouth rot, etc. They are in your pond! We need to combat them before they destroy your fish population.

Accuclear would be used to rapidly clarify the pond water if the pond appeared a bit murky or Green Water was detected.

If excessive String Algae are detected, we get out as much as we can and use Greenclean & Barley.

Bacta-Pur SLUDGEBUSTER would be added if the pond had excessive accumulation of sludge and debris.

We fertilize all plants with Pondtabbs.

We add Bacta-Pur Pro 100 a probiotic that prevents development of disease in your pond

And boosts the fishes eco-immunity.

After we test the water with the Test Kit, we add as needed pH down, pH up, pH buffer, Ammo-lock 2, TurboStart, to correct imbalance.

Zeolite is recharged to continue its role in absorption of trace Ammonia that can occur.

The pond is set until we come back on our next visit! Remember, not all these items are needed each visit; It gives you a great perspective of how conscientious we are about pond keeping. We do everything we can to make your pond a healthy, balanced, "living" ecosystem!

Fall maintenance visit

As you read in the outline of what we do during this visit, we use the following products depending on your ponds character and personality.

First off, the goal is to prepare the pond for winter. With that said, we want the ecosystem to remain as healthy, clear, and balanced as it has for the entire summer season. We need to keep it that way for the winter as well.

With the final Water Change, we need to add Dechlorinator to remove toxic chlorine, chloramines, ammonia.

We will continue to add Beneficial Bacteria, Microbe-Lift or Bacta-Pur to support and continue the Nitrification Cycle, until the water reaches 50 degrees. KC Nitrifier is an additional kick of LIVE Nitrifiers, added for additional support of the colony of Nitrifiers.

If this visit is performed at 50 degrees, then we will use Microbe-Lift Autumn Prep & Clear Pond Fall & Winter Formula that is Loaded with Cold water Bacteria to continue to work in temps down to 37 degrees!

Salt is added to maintain electrolyte balance to protect fish from disease as well as to kill parasites, and help eliminate toxic effects of Nitrites. We normally bring the salt up to a .25 - .3% for the winter months.

Algaefix and Ecofix are added to control String Algae, reduce organic pollution, and increase oxygen into the pond. Barley is supplemented to breakdown Algae as well.

Accuclear would be used to rapidly clarify the pond water if the pond appeared a bit murky or Green Water was detected.

If excessive String algae is detected, we get out as much as we can and use Greenclean & Barley.

Bacta-Pur SLUDGEBUSTER would be added if the pond has excessive accumulation of sludge and debris.

Activated Carbon is still in the pond. Carbon offers a ga-zillion "hotel rooms" for the Nitrifiers to proliferate.

Fritzguard is added to coat the bio-media for superb adherence of the Nitrifiers to the various surfaces in the bio-media as well as on the surfaces within the pond.

Zeolite is recharged and ready to continue the absorption of Ammonia that can occur.

After we test the water with the Test Kit, we add as needed pH down, pH up, pH buffer, Ammo-lock 2, TurboStart, to correct imbalance.

We then secure Pond Netting over the pond to ensure against leaves entering the pond.

See a detail of the work items we perform under Fall/Winter Services and make sure you read up on the articles, Fall Preparation... Why the Fuss? & Winterization... Why more Fussing?

We then return for our Winterization Service

Winterization

Once the leaves are down, we now remove the net to prevent it from weighing down with snow and causing danger to fish if they get stuck in it!.

During this final visit of the year we shut down the pond as detailed in out Fall Winter Preparation Services and also explained in Winterization... Why More fussing?

We then secure the Aerator and De-Icer into the pond and plug them in.

**The two most essential elements that must be in your pond are an Aerator & a De-Icer. The article will GREATLY inform you as to why to have both!!!

See you In the Spring!!!
